The Black Dog, Weymouth

The Black Dog is a former Devonish pub that is on one of Weymouths main shoping streets. If you enter here from the main entrance the bar is to the left and the pub has lots of different drinking areas, there is also a small back entrance which is on the sea front. There were two real ales on when i went in here i had a drink of Weymouth Quay Pale ale which was a nice drink the other beer was Bass. Whenever we have been in here this pub has always been busy. Pub visited 25 August 1999.

A terraced town centre pub that has character, in white render, with front facing gable and oriel window. There is a patio. The interior is open plan. There is a long bar on the left hand side after entering from the main street. The general décor is white with support and ceiling beams, the room has a few areas, including a pool table area in cream and wood panel and a small sofa area which has a stone fireplace. There is some naval ephemera and prints on the walls. The service was fine and there was a mixed clientele. There was a TV with the sport on and the background music was general, but loudish. They did food, but I didn’t eat here so I can’t comment on that. Beer; tap stuff with Ringwood Bitter and a decent Dorset Brewing Company’s Jurassic on handpull. It was a decent enough place to visit and I would go back. It may appeal to the younger crowd on weekends.
