The Railway Alehouse, Doncaster

I wandered into the Railway just before a Premiership football match had finished. As I ordered the TV was muted and some loud music was put on in its place. The bar is stocked with Amstel and standard draught and I counted four hand pumps. The Brains Brewery’s Merlin’s Oak was off leaving John Smiths Cask and Copper Dragon’s Golden Pippin as the ale options. A forth hand pump was drawing Old Rosie cider. The bar is located along the left hand wall and faces some tables with banquette seating that run under the front windows. At the rear of the pub is a pool table and there is a smaller separate room with a dartboard. I found the down to earth locals to be very friendly, but I decided to leave when the speakers started blaring out the Strawbs hit ‘Part of the Union’.
