The Swan, Wolverhampton

Less than average pub. Only one pump in use with Greene King IPA. The service was friendly but amazingly poor! I asked for half an IPA. After a confused look the young barman grabbed a pint glass. When I said I only want a half he said how do I do that? After I explained he should just use a half glass he found one and started to pour. I ended up with a quarter pint plus head. "I'll let that settle" came the usual statement. He then said he had never served ale before and never heard of IPA! He couldn't find it on the till, I actually had to point it out on his till screen! On a good day GK IPA is bland but the only saving grace here is that it was completely tasteless. By now I had lost the will to live and couldn't wait to move on! I'll miss this one out in future.

Unremarkable pub, with a partially opened-out layout on three sides of the central servery and a mix of modern and traditional furniture and decorative features throughout. Pool table and rear patio beer garden, with an admittedly proficient singer (albeit with a karaoke-style backing track) to keep some of the punters entertained. Two of four handpumps in operation when I visited, dispensing Sharp's Atlantic and a decent Holden's Golden Glow (£3.30).
