Town pub now spruced up with a tidy green & cream colour scheme, renewed furnishings and some arty floor tiles round the bar. There are 3 or so distinct areas at the front and a dining area stretching off to the back. Not a huge amount of life or character to it, although they do have entertainments most evenings. It all felt a bit unloved though, with unpunctual opening, a stack of dirty glasses on the bar and a group of twerlies arriving for booked lunch to be told the kitchen was closed. Beerwise not much better with TTL clip reversed and the brewery-conditioned fake handpump Wainwright Gold in a poor state. Apparently a change of ownership is mooted.

No cask beer available at the time of my visit. The pub is closing at the end of May for a refurbishment, locally rumoured to be a Slug & Lettuce, which is hard to imagine.
