The New Inn, Canterbury

The New Inn is a narrow pub with a small L-shaped front bar with seating across the front windows to the left of the entrance and up the left-hand wall either side of a fireplace that has an old-style jukebox set into it. The L-shaped serving counter in the right rear corner supports premium keg options alongside seven hand pumps that were drawing Hophead, Kent Brewery’s Prohibition, Oakham’s Citra, Big Trip’s I Don’t Even Like Football, Brew York’s Dark Mild and Skinners’ Betty Stoggs. A door to the left of the counter gains access to the rear where there’s a table and chairs in a snug at the end of the counter, and high tables that run up the left-hand wall under a vaulted glass ceiling. Mid-way up the right is a seating area where lots of books are available to read. Out the back is a nice patio garden that was a bit noisy being situated next to a nursery with lots of small people. The service was polite and the £2 half of Hophead was probably the cheapest drink of the day, so I’ll be sure to pop back in next time I’m in the area.
