Great Ale at the Vaults, Bolton

Visited a couple of weeks ago towards the end of November, on a weekday afternoon. Four hand pulls at the bar with three in active service. Ales available were from Coach House, Pennine, and another I can't remember. My Pennine Dark Forest set me back £1.75 for a half. There is an 'outside' area within the vaults with additional seating. In this area the floor is on a slope, but I couldn't help admiring the benches and tables with the set of legs at one end longer than at the other to compensate for the slope. I suppose they must have been custom made. I don't know why but didn't feel wowed by the place, but that said I'd probably be happy to call in again if I was passing.

Lovely spot in the vaults of another market hall. Sister pub to "one for the road". Maybe not offering the variety of beers as that making up with atmospehere. I went for the house beer "Gret T'ale" from Deeply Vale Brewery - which was very well kept. GBG 2024.

what a lovely little vaulted bar this is, well described below. The lads running the place were very friendly and I enjoyed a decent stout from the four handpumps (three ales and a cider). Sadly custom was a bit sparse on a Saturday afternoon and the relentless thudding dance music from the game arcade next door was a drawback. Not this bar’s fault, but still. It’s definitely worth a look if in Bolton but I don’t imagine staying for a session.

Cellar bar located in the vaults of a retail/entertainment development called the Market Place. The Vaults also has a number of dining outlets and there was some kind of live music going on outside. Despite being listed in the Good Beer Guide, I wasn't particularly impressed with the real ale selection. The house beer is called Grey T'Ale and is from Deeply Vale. Two guests were Goff's Jouster & Wensleydale Black Dub, whilst the cider was Thistly Cross Whisky Cask. Whatpub states that there is a discount on real ales for CAMRA members. Although, this is not actively promoted. We took up a seat overlooking the passageway, which was a good spot for peoplewatching. Otherwise, there are plenty of better pubs and bars in Bolton.

Occupying 3 arches in the vaults of the newish Market Place shopping centre. Bare brick walls, as is everywhere down here. Operated by the guys who used to have Great Ale at the Market before they moved here. Four handpumps with three beers on, served by a friendly barmaid. My pint of Milestone Shine On was in good nick, but the other 2 beers available weren't very interesting. There's a 30p CAMRA discount when you show your card. Charcuterie & cheese boards are available along with pork pies. They have live music on a Sunday. It's a pleasant place.

Situated in The Market Place shopping complex. Head down the escalators and you will find a selection of bars and restaurants all occupying a load of arches. This place has, like all the units here, an open front. The pub is nicely done and there are 4 handpumps on the bar. Beers by Allgates, Milk St and The Nook breweries today (California, Zig zag Stout and Peachy Pale respectively). A nice place and I liked it.
