The River Ale House, East Greenwich, SE10

Small ale house type bar with just two rooms. The corner pub has a front bar with the counter in the rear left while it has bench or pew seating elsewhere. The back room is equipped with a long bench down one side with tall stools on the outer edge, a drinking shelf is opposite with more tall stools. The toilets are beyond and are marked Gents, Ladies and “Ambulant”. Beer is served from the cask behind the scenes and is very good, a series of Camra and SPBW awards testify to this.

A thoroughly good micro in a corner shop. There are two rooms, either side of the little bar which has a stillage room behind, all in bare brick and plain woodwork with little other decoration. In proper micro spirit it offers good beer and a welcoming atmosphere. Ales on at time of visit were Redemption Trinity, Mad Cat Pow Wow, Milestone Crusader, Canterbury Saisons Greetings, Leatherbritches Shafted and a superb Weird Beard Black Perle coffee stout, which demanded a second helping. A short walk from Westcombe Park station or the Marlton Street bus stop is right outside.
