I passed this pub a couple of times when it wasn't open and thought I would give it a try. It looks good from the outside, despite the scaffolding next door, but once through the door the smell of fried fish is overwhelming, surely long after food service had ended. I persevered to find two half-trained youngsters behind the bar, who combined to take £3.25 off me for a half of good enough ESB.
There was football on the big screen, but enough cries from neglected children in the background to convince me that money is going to be spent on boarding schools ASAP. Apparently it's OK for people with money to take their very young children to pubs well after bedtime but people with lower income should stay at home and watch the football on the telly with cans of Carling.

A fairly pleasant Fullers pub but as is often the case for me in Fullers pubs I found the beer uninteresting with just Pride and ESB available.

Pretty - if subtle - frontage, I presume that this was converted into a pub maybe not a million years ago. Inside is a fairly bijou oblong interior with a bit character via the Fuller's makeover mob - varnished wood floorboards, chunky wood tables, Chesterfields etc. Downside was a less-than-bright staff member dimming the lights to the point of hobbitness despite it being barely 5pm on a sunny summer’s day and in fact it felt like the whole set of staff were a fairly perfunctory set. Reviews below mention a beer garden which I have to admit I didn’t notice. Six pumps with four Fuller's and their stable. My Pride was barrel-endy and tasted like it'd been on since the weekend (NBSS 2). I can see why this missed the GBG when it's sister pubs in town didn't. Has potential – could imagine an experienced guv’nor could make this a destination, rather than a bit of crawl fodder. 6.5
