Recently opened on the site of a former Brew Dog, after a short spell as Dog Gone when presumably the new owners could not come up with anything else, this has now returned to it’s original name of many years ago, although décor wise it seems to have changed little, if at all, from when it was Brew Dog, even retaining the illuminated beer list with black lettering above the bar counter.

Décor wise it’s quite industrial with some sort of concrete screed on the floor and a black painted ceiling with exposed cable trays, although there was also an exposed brick wall at one end, stone cladding on the bar counter, and some partitions made out of roughly sawn wood which gave it a slightly more rustic feel in places. Seating was fitted and padded banquette seating along the front wall with lightly padded chairs elsewhere. Various bits of fake foliage were hung around, and there was a selection of board games piled in to a box on the window sill.

Like a Brew Dog, there were no real ales on tap and they also seem to have followed their predecessor’s pricing model with the cheapest beer coming in at £6.95. The available choice consisted of Beavertown’s Neck Oil and Gamma Ray, Sierra Nevada’s Pale, Lumina and Cali along with Northern Monk Faith, Hawkstone IPA and Prairie Bomb, the latter being the only dark beer and the one I would have gone for had it not been 12%. Ciders meanwhile were Hawkstone and Kicking Goat Berry. Overall, the pub is ok, but I was a bit disappointed with the beer choice so probably won’t be rushing back.

As described very thoroughly by others, below, this Brewdog is a satisfactory place to sit and spend time, although the lack of real ale is a downside, as it is with all Brewdogs. The large TV screen by the door was switched off, there was awful MOBO on the HiFi, and the WiFi wasn’t working. The barman was friendly enough but clearly tired. There was a crowd of lads, possibly a stag party, occupying the outside seating, but they weren’t causing a problem. Other than them and us, the only customers were tourists. I enjoyed my pint of Shore Leave, though it was predictably over-chilled. Happy to come back.
