Visited on a Sunday afternoon in August. Still has four hand pulls but only Hobgoblin IPA available when I visited. One pull was unclipped with the other two having Wainwright reversed. I went for an Old Mout cider; that, and a pint of lemonade and a Fruit Shoot set me back £12.50.

There is an extensive outdoor beer garden to the rear. Looks to be an outside bar but it wasn't being used at the time of my visit; perhaps it's for events. There is a small play area. There is a car park to the side of the pub, which was very busy, as indeed was the pub itself and beer garden. Inside is not massive with two rooms (front and rear) although opened up somewhat. Food is served.

I was disappointed by the lack of any reasonable ale and I couldn't see me returning just for a drink.

The Comfortable Gill has had a refurb in the last 12 months or so. I never got to experience it before this, but it certainly looks more welcoming and attractive from the outside now.

At the bar are four hand pulls for cask, the two facing the main entrance were blank yesterday and the two on the opposite side offered Old Speckled Hen and Doom Bar. WhatPub suggests the other two are in use for guests, so perhaps I was unlucky with the timing of my visit.

Went for a meal with a friend and the menu offers a lot of the typical pub classics as well as steaks, grills, baguettes, etc. The prices are reasonable and the portion sizes were decent. Despite not having my first or second meal choices available, the rump steak I ended up with was very nice and a rather generous portion with chips, tomato, mushrooms, onion rings, seasonal veg and salad all included.

The young chap behind the bar was very attentive in checking our meals were OK and bringing over cutlery and clearing up quickly between courses.

It's a shame there wasn't more choice on the real ale front but I went for a Maltsmiths IPA on keg which was better than expected.

I'd be very happy to return for a meal.

Lovely old fashioned country pub opposite Bent's Garden Centre with British style pub food, bar snacks and basket meals in the garden, well worth a visit!
