E TA left this review about Redwoods Inn
A fairly battered village pub, the only pub in this sizeable village. The main building has 17th Century roots, though most of the structure is hidden by cement and artex. There are a couple of outbuildings, including a skittle alley. All the buildings and the grounds around them are in poor condition which makes it look like it’s ready for demolition. There is very little parking, there are a couple of benches at the front and there is a nondescript garden. At the front is a narrow conservatory through which you enter, choosing one of two doors. There are two main bar areas: on the right as you enter is a restaurant room, on the left the main bar which is formed by knocking through two earlier rooms as evinced by a low step in the middle to catch the unwary. Both have faded, worn 1970s carpets. The bar contains a woodburner, a TV screen and a dartboard, none of which were in use when we visited. It felt far from welcoming – signs at the front state that dogs are not permitted, nor are Wellington boots, wet or dry. There was dull pop music on the HiFi. The absence of bar stools also indicates that it is not a great local. The landlord and landlady, both elderly, were also less than convivial. Two St Austell ales on tap, Tribute and Endeavour, both in average condition. Also on were Shipyard, Guinness, Korev, Carlsberg, Thatcher’s Gold and Rascal. Food was home-made and reasonably priced, though the beer was expensive for the area. It all felt very ramshackle and is probably best to those locals that can be bothered.
