A very pleasant village pub dating from the 18th Century. There is not much by way of parking, just a couple of spaces at the front. There is a paved courtyard garden at the rear with tables and benches, plus some covered smoking areas. Inside is a single U-shaped bar at the front an a smaller seating area behind. No bar stools, which felt strange in a village pub, just tables, most of which were set for dining. Structural beams and a stone hearth are on display. The staff were friendly and helpful, though they were temporary managers as the owners were away on holiday. The average age of customers was quite high, making us query where the younger villagers socialised. Dull pop music was on the HiFi, but it wasn’t obtrusive. Food was good value and freshly prepared. There were 4 handpumps on the bar, but only 2 cask ales on, Otter Amber and Dartmoor Legend, both in very good condition. Also on were Carlsberg, Devon Red, Thatcher’s Haze, Hobgoblin IPA, Madri and Poretti. I’d be very happy to come back in for drinks and a meal next time I’m in the area.
