Blue Scrumpy left this review about Greyhound

The Greyhound is situated in a small village hidden away off the main road. Parking is on the lanes around. As you approach, there are a few tables to the front and there is a garden area to the left of the pub.

The interior is bright with a pale blue and white colour scheme and bare boards. Walls feature animal pictures and farming implements. The central bar has rooms either side. The bar has a couple of bay windows, one with a table being used for diners and the other containing a smaller table for local drinkers. One area of the bar featured artwork for sale.

As with the previous 2 pubs I had visited in this area, Larkin's Traditional is the regular cask ale. 2 guests were both from Romney Marsh - Best Bitter & Marsh Sunset. A fourth handpull was clipped with Charrington's The Earl's Reserve cider. Craft beers were Gun Scaramanga & Lakedown Pacific Sunrise, whilst a keg cider was Lakedown Wealdebeest. Olives were on sale at the bar.

My order for half of the Marsh Sunset and a bag of crisps came up as £7+ on the till. The young barmaid was quite friendly but it's amazing how youngsters rely so much on automation these days. On querying the price, it was corrected to £4.

Food is served and I sat close to one of the bay windows where a group of 4 elderly customers were commenting on some of their poor meal and pricing experiences. When their bill was delivered to the table, they did not agree with the total. They ended up telling the same girl what they were going to pay, which included scrapping the 12.5% service charge automatically. Confusion followed about whether fish & chips or a fish pie had been consumed and whether a fifth member of their party had already paid for their meal and whether that was still included in the bill. Out came a pen and paper and possibly even a calculator. These pensioners seemingly prepare for battle every lunchtime they meet. Despite the fact that her customers were quite antagonistic, I thought the young girl remained remarkably calm throughout the debate.

Dogs are allowed in here but some were quite noisy and yappy. Music such as the Eagles was playing quietly. There is no wifi and no mobile phone signal either. Painting workshops in the pub were being promoted. Toilets were interesting. I had a choice between cows or bulls, which caused me to stop and think. The Bulls toilets had some milk churns to pee into. I dread to think what the cows were having to use.

This is a good country pub with some nice ales and ciders. Perhaps the pricing issues were a coincidence but the debate with the pensioners was continuing when I drove out of the village!

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Greyhound

I was amazed when I discovered this place in 2008 - I've lived in West- and Mid-Kent for most of my life, and thought that I knew the area (and its pubs) pretty well but had never heard of Charcott (let alone this pub). Anyway, very glad to go back to find the place thriving, despite being so hidden away in a quiet hamlet. Beer garden on the left-hand side. The very local Larkins Traditional (£5.00), The Pardoner's from Canterbury Ales and Carrington's Earl's Reserve cider available from three of the four handpumps on this long-overdue revisit. Within easy walking distance of Penshurst station via a paved footpath opposite Chiddingstone Causeway church.
