Visited on Friday and as thew previous reviewer has noted, this is the latest opening from the 1936 Pub Co. Along the right hand wall is the bar with a grand wooden bar back. There is pew seating to the left plus some tables and chairs. The floor is tiled. There is an exposed section of lath ceiling, as seen in one of their other pubs, dare I say faux distressed? Past the bar is a slightly raised area to the right with an old looking fireplace (carved with the date 1879). Not sure if there was a beer garden or any outdoor seating beyond this, but there was a fire exit signed in that general direction so it's possible. To the front there are a few tables and chairs on Bold Street. Upstairs leads to the toilets and and a fair bit of additional seating that looks quite nice. There is also an additional small bar, not in use at the time of my visit.

Back down at the main bar, eight hand pulls split across two banks of four. I observed Old Peculiar, Bass, something by Neptune, Lilley's Tropical cider, Higson's Oatmeal Stout, Ossett White Rat, Vocation Bread and Butter, plus a final ale that I didn't make a note of. No sign of any craft keg but has Somersby Blackberry cider on keg, Pravha, Starmopramen, Guinness, Brennan's Irish Stout, and Beverwyck Irish Lager.

Sandwiches, toasties and soup are available as a food offering. No sign of any pies or sausage rolls in a warmer, like some of the other 1936 pubs have.

A welcome addition to the area, a nice chilled out place, very glad I visited.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Angel Inn

The Angel Inn is the latest venture of the 1936 Pub Company. It has taken over the premises that used to be the Maggie May cafe on what is one of Liverpool city centre's main shopping streets. There is also a rear entrance onto Wood Street where we entered from after a swift visit to the Swan Inn opposite.

The Angel has many similarities with other pubs in the group, featuring a distressed interior and bare boards. It is spread over two floors. Toilets are upstairs and there is another bar up there stocking a more limited beer selection. On the ground floor, the bar has 8 handpulls. Bass is going to be a regular ale. Guests were Theakston Best Bitter, Neptune Ventura & Waterfront, Vocation Lo-Fi, Brimstage Trapper's Hat & Higson's Best Bitter. Lilley's Mango Cider was also on handpull. I could see a craft beer but didn't note it.

The beer range here is very similar to other pubs in the chain. So, whilst this pub adds to the city centre's pub options, it doesn't necessarily offer any difference to beers found elsewhere. Nevertheless, I'm sure I'll be back here quite often. Being smaller than other pubs in the group, it may get quite crowded at times, given its prominent location.
