This was a very short visit to this street corner establishment. All the tables were set for dining across the L shaped interior which stretches back on one side. The large plate glass windows give lots of light, and the bar supported one clipped handpump for Harvey's Sussex Best.
I entered by an opened side door but noted the other doors were locked and on enquring if the pub was open told rather brusquely by a lad they were closed so exited stage left.
However the owner spotted me outside consulting my smart phone and offered advice where I could drink and eat nearby and then aplogised for the lack of either here on this Saturday lunchtime. At least he confirmed that you can just drink in the Londesborough although it looked to me a restaurant that also served beer.

This is a fairly conventional mid-Victorian corner pub in a standard Stoke Newington backstreet. Not surprisingly it has been made over to a certain extent, though not painfully so. The floor is bare of course and there are chunky old school tables and conventional wooden chairs. Naturally bare brick and grey paint clichés abound, but there are some vestigial polychromatic glazed tiles to remind the drinker of better times past. The bar frontage is traditional too, with deep field panelled bare wood. To the walls, there are some film and sporting event posters. On high, lighting comes from some attractive steel chandeliers. On the bar there are pies of some description which aren’t covered in any way, so I’d rather not be the one to eat them, though there’s real food too, probably served in the spacious rear of the pub. Music played over the gramophone, but at a sensible level.
The bare staff were friendly – one unused clip thereafter Harvey’s Sussex Best and Purity’s Mad Goose at £4.60 a pint and in very good nick it was too.
This is a decent pub, probably the best of the three in this enclave. It’s not as made over as the Prince and has better beer and lacks the rough edges and sport orientation of the Shakespeare – worth popping in, but not worthy of a special trip.

This place is bigger than it looks from the outside as the pub stretches back quite a way from the bar area at the front. There is even more space in a well kept paved area beer garden out the back that is decorated with lots of plant pots. It is a gastro pub so food is served, but my visit was late one recent midweek day so I didn’t spot anyone eating. It wasn’t very busy to be honest and there were nearly as many dogs in as people. I spotted a small DJ booth that wasn’t being used, but the jukebox was working and someone had put on every song from a greatest reggae hits album.
There were a couple of ales that I fail to remember and a premium lager selection. I had a Guinness which was well served by a professional guy working the bar.
There’s not really anything wrong with this place, but I think that there are better pubs in the area.
