Will Larter left this review about Percy Vear's Old Cask Inn
I assumed that Percy Vear was some sort of pun on "persevere" (as in, you have to keep going up a steep hill to get here), but it appears that he was a local boxer of some renown, who died in 1983 (see the pub's website for details). It's a busy and friendly pub, crammed with locals at the time of my tea-time midweek visit. I could only see two hand pumps at the bar (the website says four), and these were offering Tetleys Bitter and Saltaire Blonde. I have to say the Tetleys was the best I've had since they stopped brewing it in Yorkshire (still not as good as it used to be though), and at only £1.30 for a half it was good value too.
