Steve C left this review about The Saracens Head

The Saracens Head is located in an imposing yet inviting building that faces Stone Street Square. Unfortunately the open plan interior has the décor and atmosphere of a large high street boozer found in any town centre. Brown faux leather banquettes run across the front windows and the bar counter on the right-hand wall faces a sea of high tables with stools covered in the same brown material. At the rear is a raised seating area with a dartboard. Televisions throughout were airing muted Sky Sports News and Racing TV whilst some low background music played. Standard keg was available alongside Heineken, and one of the three hand pumps was in operation drawing Wye Valley’s HPA. The pub is clean and tidy, but it lacks character so I’ll walk past next time.

This is a fantastic looking Georgian styled building in brick and stone with an impressive pediment, along with a side patio area. The inside is an irregular open plan area with all the old rooms having been smashed through and only to be betrayed by their small fireplaces. Local history photos are on the walls, along with copious TVs showing sport silently while soft music played. Mixed clientele. Service was friendly. A couple of real ales on, Hobgoblin Gold and a decent Wainwright, along with Birra Moretti. Run-of-the-mill, really.

A nice looking pub but, sadly, let down by the beer selection. Its a large open plan place in a Wetherspoonsish layout. Lots of tellies to watch your horse/footy team lose. 6 handpumps on the bar with only 2 on today, Hobgob and Hobgob Gold. Though there is nothing wrong with the place it was a bit of a disappointment.
