Canalside-adjacent Batemans pub with a good view of the windmill opposite. Fairly basic and a bit scruffy inside with the previous two separate front rooms (left side is the bar, right has a pool table and sports TV) now accessible by a knock-through arch. There’s a more upmarket lounge through a door but nobody was there so I stayed with the crowd. Two Batemans ales, my XB was very good (NBSS 4). Boston’s a pretty poor town for decent cask pubs, so this one is a default even if it is a bit basic. 6.5

The Kings Arms sits along the Maud Foster Drain, what a quant name, opposite a very impressive 200 year old seven floored five sailed windmill. Inside the pub there’s a bar area to the left with a stool lined serving counter across the rear that faces seating along the left-hand window. To the right of the entrance is pool table that is faced by a television above a fireplace on the right-hand wall and seating under the right front window. There are more rooms at the rear, but they looked to be in use of the hotel rather than the general drinking public, well that’s what I assumed after a quick glance through a rear window. There was some background music courtesy of a jukebox and Sky Sports is advertised out the front, but the television was off which maybe due to my weekday afternoon visit being long before any football would have kicked off. This is a Bateman’s pub with six hand pumps along the counter, but the only cask options were XB and XXXB. Standard and premium keg were also available from the polite governor. There’s not really much to this place if I’m being honest, I was more impressed with the windmill opposite.

Sitting above the Maud Foster drain and opposite the famous sailed windmill, this Bateman's house is an earthy boozer. The front room has a pool table to the right,a mix of furniture opposite the bar and copious bar stools for the well oiled regulars.Above a tiled fireplace is a drop down screen for BT and Sky Sports coverage. The decor is a bit dated but the welcome friendly enough. There is a much calmer back room stretching the full width of the building with dining type tables and access to the island bar,but unused .
There are 6 handpumps but on my Wednesday evening visit only Bateman's XB was on,fresh NBSS 3.5.The muzak was a little boring and loud but not as load as the regulars with one lady particularly shrill. Not quite enough real ale options to tempt another visit.
