this is not a pub but a stall in Altrincham’s very busy gentrified market, ran by Blackjack brewery and serving 5 of their beers plus a guest. My Salvation IPA came out like murk but tasted fine. The place was absolutely rammed at 11am and I went outside to find a table. When I passed an hour later, these tables were full as well. A pint and a pie & mash from the stall opposite set me back £20 so be prepared to spend big. This is Altrincham after all. It’s card only and one of those card readers that asks you to leave a tip, poor show.

Paid a visit recently, having been to the other Jack in the Box inside the Mackie Mayor building in Manchester a while back. This is very much on the same theme, a bar within a recently done up market hall with other outlets offering food etc and a communal seating area in the middle and outside. There did not seem to be as many Blackjack beers on offer as there were in its Manchester equivalent, but my friend had the Jack In The Box pale ale which was pretty good, and I went for Photon IPA by Alechemy (not a typo!) Brewing which I found to be very acceptable indeed! Getting a seat was a bit of a struggle but as it was a nice evening we sat on one of the outside tables, though you do feel a bit excluded from the atmosphere out there. Definitely worth a look and I would be happy to go back at some point.

Not sure how to classify this one, it isn't a pub as such in the way they are normally self contained within their own walls, this forms a corner unit within Altrincham's old market house which now contains numerous food and drink outlets sharing a central space. There are three dedicated large barrels used as tables for vertical drinkers.
A good range of beers on, Blackjack House Pale, Gwynt y Ddraig Autumn Magic, (cider), Cromarty Brewing Co Happy Chappy, Moor Brewery Dark Alliance, Hopcraft Brewery Slave to the Wage. There is a row of keg taps on the back wall. This is a fairly new venture and a welcome one too, the side wall is testament to the changing beer range already holding scores of beer mats. The young barman was friendly and enthusiastic but you are unlikely to stay here for a long session with a lack of seating and an environment of mixed different food and drink outlets meaning that the real focus is probably family and slightly upmarket lunches.
I liked the concept though and as this is clearly not a session venue I think it works in its current form. I'm surprised that they can run with six cask ales but my pint of Slave to the Wage was top drawer and I really do wish them all the best.
