Still as described by Quinno, below, we found the pub welcoming and atmospheric, possibly due to the decent crowd that were in, pleasant music on the jukebox and the presence of decent ale. There is a garden at the rear, which includes a small function room in what was once a mortuary. Cask ales on were Tribute, Proper Job and Harding’s, all in very good condition. Keg options were San Miguel Brue River, Rich’s Cider, Amstel, Cruzcampo, Guinness and Thatcher’s Gold and Dry. Better than most pubs in this neighbourhood, and I’d be happy to come back if in the area.

Funny place, there must have been an internal reconfiguration at some point as there is no front window due to the bar backing onto the area where it must have once been so it’s a bit devoid of natural light inside. A bit mish-mash, some wally has glooped a nasty grey/green paint on some of the third length wood panelling but some of it remains unmolested and is quite pleasant. Odd real ale selection at the bar, St Austell Tribute plus a Heritage Brewing Co Classic Bitter which was in great shape (NBSS 4) and was the best beer of a long and hot day’s crawling. Polite service from the behind the bar as well. Better than expected; could be improved but the cask quality and service means it deserves a better-than-average rating.
