ORIGINAL REVIEW April 2019 as Pint Shop

A revelation. You enter with the bar running down the left side and dominated by the 20 keg serving gantry. However just beyond are 6 handpumps offering nirvana. The pumps just have handwritten ale names but the sight of Marble Dobber 6.6% was a no brainer. The other choices were from some leading brewers.
There is a modest amount of seating around the bar, with a calm back area with some high tables and narrow tables with bench seating. On the first floor is a kitchen and dining area, which was packed. It's an old building with a fine staircase leading the the higher floors and is right next to the Welly.
I can remember when the Pint Shop in Cambridge had this kind of ale line up,but sadly that star faded.Let's hope the team here can maintain their focus on the very best real ale,if so this is an unmissable treat when searching for tip top ale in Central Birmingham.

September 2019 as Pint Shop.

Sadly as I suspected above ,the previous nirvana range of real ale was aimed at helping the operation get a foothold in the local drinking scene.A revisit found a less adventurous selection on handpump and nothing much over 4.6%.Minus one mark, but there is still some interesting gear on keg such as Buxton Axe Edge and Tiny Rebel Amplified Double Imperial Stay Puft Marshmellow Porter.Still worth including on any beer tour of Birmingham however.

UPDATE as Bundobust.

The interior is unchanged from the previous incarnation as Pint Shop but the furniture is now almost exclusively metal framed in bright yellow. The long keg gantry remains on the bar and there were 3 real ales on my trip in Glasshouse Narcis,Thornbridge/Bundobust Galaxy Simcoe and Burning Soul Lost Paradise .The keg selection was a mix of Bundobust and some guests and I enjoyed my Northern Monk/Bundoblast Mango Lassi Dazzler .
The USP here is really the indian street food, mainly vegetarian small dishes and tiffin style,we sampled 6 dishes which were excellent and well matched by the beer selection. You can just drink in here but there isn't much pub atmosphere ,so try the unusual dishes and sup some craft keg to match it.The staff are very engaging and will advise on both the food and beer choices, beer samples are freely given .

My first visit since it was the Pint Shop. Very bright and cheerful inside. I went for a Bundobust / Thornbridge collaboration which was excellent and only £4.20 a pint which is pretty good for City Centre. The food smelt great and there were plenty people eating. The craft beer choice was extensive so something for everybody. Much as I miss the Pint Shop this is still well worth visiting.

I was last in these premises back in October 2019, when I really rated it as a branch of the Pint Shop chain. Now, it is much brighter inside and is part of the Bundobust chain. The layout is very much as I remember it, with the bar in front of you as you enter, against the left-hand wall, with various seating areas scattered around.

There are 4 handpulls on the bar. 2 were clipped for my visit with a Bundobust/Thornbridge collaboration called Golden Ale, alongside Salopian Darwin's Origin. Meanwhile, the craft beer selection is much more extensive - Bundobust Chaitro, Bundobari, Perla, Dhania, Ekia El Dorado, East Is East, Manak & Dhoop, Bundobust/Northern Monk Mango Lassi Dazzler, Bundobust/Attic Brum-Dobust, Bundobust/Braybrooke Night Market, Yonder Strawberry & Lychee, Glasshouse Plus & Northern Monk Eternal. The cider was Bundobust/Hogan's Imli. Whether these are all really collaborations or not, I'm not sure. But, if so, they're certainly doing a lot of collaborating!

I opted for the Thornbridge Golden Ale collaboration, which was quite nice, considering I'm not normally a fan of golden ales. It was also good preparation before heading to Thornbridge's own pub (the Colmore), just around the corner.

Food, as per their other branches is Indian vegetarian. I believe I was the first customer in, but a few other office workers started arriving for their lunches soon after me.

I preferred this venue when it was the Pint Shop, but it's still a decent addition to an area rich in decent pubs/bars.
