Lauder’s bar dates to 1836. It is named after Archibald Lauder, who took the licence in 1871, when it was The Royal Lochnagar Vaults. Lauder produced a blended whisky, Lauder’s Royal Northern Cream, which was exported worldwide. In the 1800’s the building had seven bars, including a secret bar upstairs, and even a barber’s shop downstairs, where patrons could get a haircut for a penny. Today, it serves as the pub's bathrooms and cellars. The pub is open Mon to Thurs & Sun 10am to 11pm and Fri & Sat 10am to 12am. Breakfast, with plenty options to choose, is served at opening until 12pm. They do a great deal on a Breakfast Bap & Coffee Deal for £6.00. At 12pm till 6pm lunch / dinner times there is an option for a meal with a soft drink for £8.75, or upgrade to an alcoholic drink for just £1 extra. The beers on the bar at the time of visiting in early Aug. 2026 were – St Mungo’s Pure Heavenly Lager from West Brewery – Neck Oil Session IPA from Beaver Town – Coors – Joker IPA from Williams Bros Brewing – Innis & Gunn Lager – Tennent’s Lager – Asahi Seper Dry – Peroni – Madri – Inch’s Medium Apple Cider – Mahou – Guinness – Belhaven Best – Strongbow Dark Fruits.
